Important info you should know before contacting
your House representative and senators

  • Usually, the most efficient way to contact your House Representative and Senators is via e-mail or regular mail.
  • Remember to properly address your House Representative or Senator when speaking/writing to him or her (For example, you would address your Senator as Dear Senator,_____ not Dear Mr. or Mrs. _____).
  • If you make a telephone call to your Senator’s or House Representative’s office, you will most likely be addressing an aide not the Senator or House Representative.
  • POLITELY explain why you do or do not support a bill. Make sure to use facts to support your position.
  • DO NOT become angry or too passionate to talk to. Becoming angry or defensive will simply give your Senator or House Representative a reason not to listen to you.
