Meet the Staff

Ryan McKnight, Director. Ryan McKnight is the founder of DCTrueNorth.org. In addition to his role as Director, he is also the webmaster, editor, and a researcher. He is currently pursuing a B.A. in Political Science, a B.A. in Film Studies,  and a minor in International Affairs at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Rebecca Shlien, Senior Legislative Researcher. Rebecca is the staff member responsible for running the “Participate Page” of DCTrueNorth.org. She researches recent legislation coming out of both the House and Senate and provides concise summaries and statistics for the American public. All of her research is available for viewing and downloading in .pdf format on the “Participate Page.” Rebecca is a graduate of Duke University where she received a B.S. degree in Psychology and minored in Political Science. In addition to conducting research for DCTrueNorth.org, Rebecca works as a News Production Assistant at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her personal webpage is at http://www.rebeccashlien.com.

Andrew Evans, Researcher. Andrew is responsible for the upcoming “Current Health Care System” (Health Care) topic. He is currently pursuing a B.A. in Political Science at East Carolina University.

Brian Freskos, Researcher. Brian is responsible for the “Nuclear Proliferation” (Foreign Affairs) topic. He is currently pursuing a B.A. in Political Science at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Emily Glenn, Researcher. Emily Glenn is responsible for the following topics: “Al-Qaeda” (Foreign Affairs), “Taliban” (Foreign Affairs), and “Airport Security” (National Security). She is currently pursuing a B.A. in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations and Security at Duke University.

Patricia Hoen, Researcher. Patricia is responsible for the upcoming “Campaign Financing” (Elections) topic. She is currently pursuing a B.A. in Political Science at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Philip Kazmierczak, Researcher. Philip is responsible for the “War In Afghanistan” (Foreign Affairs) topic. He is currently pursuing a B.A. in Political Science at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Michael Thomas, Researcher. Michael is responsible for the  “Terror Trials” (Foreign Affairs) topic. He is currently pursuing a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy at East Carolina University.

Marc Sarmiento, Researcher. Marc is responsible for upcoming environmental topics. He is currently pursuing a B.A. in Political Science at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Michael Wall, Researcher. Michael is responsible for the “US – Mexico Immigration” topic. He is currently pursuing a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy at East Carolina University.
